Sport undeniably connects and unites people. This was confirmed at the tournament in Zagreb on Sunday. Relations between Croatia and Slovenia keep improving, and the record number of players at the last two International Manager’s Cup & Open Tour tournaments is proof of this. Nearly 50 Slovenes took advantage of the beautiful day between two thunderstorms and participated in the third IMC&OT 2011 tournament. On the May Sunday, one hundred players enjoyed their day by socialising with their friends and acquaintances that do not see this tournament as just a meeting place between different nationalities but also as a place where they can establish business contacts.
The tournament was held on the large and the small courses. Both were well organised, though the large course is much more dramatic, what with its many surrounding lakes that represent this magnificent course’s trademark. The lakes offer many a player a chance to replace their ball with a new one, or at least to wash their old one. Mr. Jaki Franja, a respected and very popular player with a handicap of 11, was the honorary sponsor. He provided the free exquisite Franja coffee and various great prizes. In the first honorary flight, Mr. Franja was joined by Ms. Marija Opić, the sponsor’s representative and Importanne board member, Mr. Rober Krempl of Reflex, a co-sponsor, and Mr. Marko Korač, the league founder.
Playing immediately after them were players vying for the top. This year, five out of nine tournaments count towards the overall ranking. Croatia is developing nicely in the golf field. Its mega project at Srd, Dubrovnik looks especially promising. This means that interest in golf is increasing and with it also the quality of the players who are bound to secure some of the top positions in the IMC&OT 2011 league this season. The above-mentioned project worth several hundred million euros is certainly one of the biggest golf investments in the region and we are sure that parts of the IMC&OT league will be held there in the future.
The following players were the most successful: check on www.imcgolf.eu.
The following two tournaments are very interesting in their own right. The Royal Balaton Golf & Yacht Club, for me personally one of the most beautiful and dramatic courses, is situated between two Hungarian national parks and offers a magnificent view of Lake Balaton. Last year, everyone who visited it for the first time agreed that the course was incredibly beautiful and difficult, and that they intend to return there. Last year, there were some 75 players attending from Croatia and Slovenia alone. The honorary sponsor of the K&H Bank Tournament will be Dr. Miklós Szócska, Minister of Health of the country currently presiding over the EU.
Eight years ago, out of curiosity, I visited the Austerlitz golf course in Brno. The course only had 9 holes then. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to play the new set of 9 holes and I must say that the dynamics of the course made quite an impression on me. The grass is great, the course affords a wonderful view of the world famous castle and park (inside its walls there is a pitch & putt course) and of the even more famous site of the Battle of Austerlitz where Napoleon won. The course itself is a marvel with its 120 huge and deep sand traps. There will be two honorary sponsors of the Kovintrade Tournament: the owner of TV Brno and president of the Brno Football Club, Mr. Roman Pros, and Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Czech Republic.
